of Nigeria’s agricultural strength.
Shettima launched the distribution of tractors to 13 Local Government Areas and individual farmers, setting the stage for the 2025 farming season. He highlighted the ongoing economic reforms championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasizing their potential to create jobs and expand opportunities across multiple sectors.
“The federal government remains committed to supporting Nasarawa in addressing the nation’s food challenges,” Shettima stated. He lauded the state’s efforts to position itself as a critical player in solving Nigeria’s food security concerns.
Empowering Youth through Skills Development
Later, at the Combined Graduation Ceremony of the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Technology Institute, Shettima emphasized the need for skill acquisition among Nigeria’s youth. He warned of the dangers of ignoring the connection between unemployment, violence, and societal unrest.
“The administration’s focus on technical and vocational education reflects our commitment to poverty reduction and job creation,” he said, noting that the institute’s 1,000 graduates are now equipped to tackle contemporary challenges in their communities.
Federal Support for Nasarawa
During the event, Governor Abdullahi Sule commended Shettima’s visit, praising the federal government’s support for the state’s economic and youth empowerment programs. Other notable speakers included former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong and Bishop Hassan Kukah, who both applauded Nasarawa’s efforts to combat poverty through skill-building initiatives.
The Emir of Lafia, Hon. Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad I (rtd), expressed gratitude for the Vice President’s unwavering commitment to the state, pledging the loyalty of the traditional council to federal policies.
Transforming Lives through Action
The event reached its climax with the distribution of start-up packs and certificates to graduates trained in welding, tailoring, ICT, and other fields. Dr. Daniel Asele, Executive Director of the vocational institute, described the training as pivotal for addressing local challenges and driving industrialization.
This initiative underscores the government’s resolve to harness Nigeria’s rich agricultural and human resources, laying the groundwork for a prosperous future.
