NiMet Forecasts Sunshine And Thunderstorms Across Nigeria From Monday To Wednesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a combination of sunshine, cloudy skies, and thunderstorms across several parts of the country from Monday through Wednesday. According to a weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency advised residents to take necessary precautions as strong winds and rainfall are expected in certain areas.

NiMet reported that the northern region would experience sunny skies with intermittent clouds on Monday morning, while thunderstorms accompanied by light rain may develop later in the day, particularly in parts of Taraba State. Similar conditions are expected on Tuesday, with possible morning thunderstorms in Taraba and Kaduna States, and moderate rainfall later in Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, and Kaduna States. On Wednesday, morning sunshine is anticipated, followed by thunderstorms with moderate rains across Adamawa, Borno, Gombe, Kaduna, and Taraba States.

In the North-Central region, cloudy weather with intervals of sunshine is predicted. Thunderstorms with light rain may affect Kogi and Benue States on Monday, while isolated morning thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected on Tuesday in the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa States. The region may witness widespread thunderstorms with moderate rainfall later in the day, and on Wednesday, isolated morning storms could give way to further thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and evening.

For the southern region, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are expected on Monday morning. Thunderstorms may occur in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, with light rainfall affecting other parts of the region later in the day. On Tuesday, moderate rainfall and thunderstorms are likely across southern states, while Wednesday is expected to bring a high likelihood of morning thunderstorms with moderate rains in Lagos, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States, followed by widespread storms later in the day.

NiMet urged the public to take precautions as strong winds may precede rainfall. The agency advised fastening loose objects, avoiding driving during heavy rain, disconnecting electrical appliances during thunderstorms, and keeping away from tall trees to prevent injury from falling branches. Temperatures are expected to remain high, causing thermal discomfort, and residents were encouraged to wear breathable clothing, stay hydrated, and remain in well-ventilated areas.

Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports for flight planning, while the general public was urged to monitor regular updates through NiMet’s official channels.
