Ogun Police Arrest Security Guards Over Murder Of Traveller

According to Ireporter Online, the Ogun State Police Command has arrested two security guards in connection with the alleged killing of a traveller in Ibafo, Ogun State.

The suspects, identified as 55-year-old Isikilu Dauda and Rasaki Abbas, were apprehended by detectives at the Ibafo Divisional Headquarters following credible intelligence received on April 10. The victim, identified simply as Promise, was reportedly attacked the night before and later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

Investigations revealed that the deceased, while being rushed for medical attention, identified himself and alleged that he was macheted by the security guards shortly after arriving in the area late. He was confirmed dead on arrival by a doctor, while his remains have been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, for autopsy.

Police authorities said preliminary findings uncovered a trail of blood that reportedly linked the crime scene to one of the suspects, leading to the arrest of both individuals. The Ogun State Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals believed to be involved in the incident.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the killing and assured that all those responsible would be brought to justice. He reaffirmed the command’s zero tolerance for extrajudicial actions and warned against any form of unlawful violence. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

In a separate development, the Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports of an alleged impending cult clash in parts of the metropolis, including Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda, and Ishaga. The command assured residents of increased patrols and heightened security presence across identified flashpoints.

Lagos Police Commissioner, CP Tijani Fatai, said security operatives had been deployed to the affected areas to prevent any breakdown of law and order, following tensions sparked by the reported killing of a suspected cult leader in Surulere over the weekend.

He urged residents to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and disregard unverified rumours capable of causing panic, while encouraging the public to report suspicious movements to security agencies for prompt action.
