commonly known as the Aye Confraternity. The arrest took place in the Imaweje community of Ijebu-Ode during the early hours of Sunday.
Ibrahim, who identified himself as a final-year student at Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijegun, is believed to be the second in command and a key figure, known as the “Butcher,” in the notorious confraternity. His arrest comes after being wanted in connection to a kidnapping case and being linked to a series of rapes and murders.
Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, revealed that the arrest was the result of meticulous intelligence work. The suspect’s hideout was raided by the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, leading to the recovery of a cache of weapons, charms, and other incriminating materials.
The seized items included a serviceable Beretta fully loaded with four rounds of live ammunition, a pump-action Rifle-Josef with 10 rounds of live cartridges, an English long double-barrel rifle, two locally made short single-barrel rifles, one locally made short single barrel with two rounds of live ammunition, and various charms of body armor.
The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has reaffirmed the commitment to eliminate criminal elements, particularly those involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, and cultism. Ogun State has witnessed a surge in cult-related activities and violent incidents in recent times, prompting law enforcement to intensify efforts to curb the rise of criminality in the region.
The recent arrest adds to the ongoing operations aimed at dismantling cult groups and criminal syndicates operating within the state. The police continue to carry out sting operations and crackdowns to maintain law and order, with a focus on protecting communities from the menace of criminal elements.
