PDP Drops the Hammer: ADC Defectors Expelled in Sweeping Party Purge
According to IReporter Online, the Lagos State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally expelled a number of its members who defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The expulsion was confirmed by Segun Edwards, the spokesperson for the PDP Elders Caucus and the Chairmen representing all 20 local government areas in the state.
The decision was reached following a strategic stakeholders’ meeting convened by senior party figures and local leaders to assess recent outcomes from the National Executive Council (NEC) gathering held in Abuja. During the deliberation, the assembly unanimously agreed to expel all individuals who had openly pledged allegiance to the ADC, describing their conduct as a direct violation of party loyalty.
Party authorities accused the defectors of undermining the founding principles of the PDP, stating that their public affiliation with a rival political entity constituted a betrayal of trust and party discipline. The motion to expel the concerned members was tabled and overwhelmingly supported by all present elders and chairmen.
In light of these developments, local government PDP Chairmen have been directed to commence immediate preparations for a comprehensive round of internal congresses, ranging from grassroots structures to the national convention. These activities are expected to take place between September and November 2025.
The PDP leadership maintained that by aligning with the opposition, the expelled individuals had effectively relinquished their rights as members, thereby disqualifying themselves from continued participation in party affairs.
