Allies of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have strongly countered recent claims of betrayal made by actor and former campaign spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo. In a widely shared podcast interview, Okonkwo accused Obi of turning his back on him after the elections and aligning with the Julius Abure-led Labour Party faction despite earlier cautions.

Okonkwo alleged that Obi ignored his warnings about the group’s alleged lack of internal democracy and their misrepresentation of INEC’s recognition status. He claimed that just days after a private discussion with Obi, the LP candidate publicly endorsed the same faction, further straining their relationship.

In response, Obi’s former campaign spokesperson, Nana Sani Kazaure, dismissed the allegations, questioning Okonkwo’s motives and integrity. Drawing a parallel to former President Jonathan’s peaceful approach to politics, she said restraint should not be equated with betrayal.

Kazaure also accused Okonkwo of harboring personal grievances and using Obi as a scapegoat. “Your persistent criticism only reflects your current political alignment,” she said.
