Plateau Government Softens Curfew As Situation Stabilizes

The Plateau State Government has announced a further relaxation of the curfew in Jos North Local Government Area, citing “relative peace” following the recent deadly attacks in Angwan Rukuba. According to official statements released on Tuesday, the revised curfew arrangement will take effect from Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

Under the new directive, residents are allowed to move freely between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., while a dusk-to-dawn curfew from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. remains in force. Authorities have urged citizens to adhere strictly to the permitted hours and cooperate with security operatives to maintain safety.

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has directed security agencies to intensify enforcement of the curfew to safeguard lives and property and restore calm in the affected areas. Citizens were also encouraged to provide information that could help prevent further violence.

The curfew adjustment follows lingering tension in Jos North after the attacks in Angwan Rukuba, which resulted in multiple fatalities. Among the victims was Abel Joro, a 200-level student at the University of Jos, who succumbed to injuries sustained during the violence at the Jos University Teaching Hospital. Cleric Ezekiel Dachomo described Joro’s death as “heartbreaking,” highlighting the devastating impact on his family and the community.

Reports indicate that other students and a university staff member were also killed in the attacks, amplifying concerns among residents and the academic community.
