Police Apprehend 2 For Theft Of Electrical Wires Worth N1.5 Million In Enugu

In a statement by the Command’s Spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, it was revealed that police operatives from the Independence Layout Police Division, acting on credible information, made the arrest on April 6, around 9 am.

During the operation, the police recovered electrical distribution boxes, rolls of cables, and numerous LED electrical bulbs, all valued at about ₦1,500,000, from the apprehended suspects.

One of the suspects, Sunday Ogbodo, 38, from Akpugo in Nkanu West Local Government Area, confessed to stealing various electrical wiring and installation items from different construction sites in Independence Layout and other parts of the Enugu metropolis. He utilized his Peugeot 406 car for the criminal activities, which was also seized by the police.

Ogbodo’s confession led to the arrest of his accomplice, Ogbonna Maduabuchi, 40, from Amechi-Uwani Awkunanaw in Enugu South LGA, on April 9. Maduabuchi confessed to his involvement in the crimes as well.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) emphasized that further investigations are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices at large. The arrested suspects will be arraigned and prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigations.

The PPRO urged individuals who have experienced theft of electrical wiring and installation items from their construction sites recently to visit the Independence Layout Police Station for identification of items and further necessary actions.
