Police Disburse ₦37.3m to Families of Fallen Officers in Abuja

At least 39 families of deceased police officers from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command have received welfare cheques totaling ₦37,388,829.25.

The cheques were presented Tuesday at the FCT Police Command headquarters, Abuja, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The disbursement was made under three key schemes:

  • Group Life Assurance

  • Nigeria Police Force Welfare Insurance Scheme

  • Group Personal Accident Cover

According to the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the gesture represents both financial support and a tribute to the sacrifices of the fallen officers.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Adewale Ajao, reaffirmed the IG’s commitment to a compassionate and responsive welfare system, emphasizing that the support aims to boost morale and strengthen the sense of belonging within the force.

“These cheques represent more than financial support—they are a symbol of our respect and remembrance,” Ajao said.

The event was attended by senior police officers, insurance partners, and emotional family members, many of whom expressed gratitude.
