Police Officer Arrested For Allegedly Kidnapping Five Children In Abuja

Among the abducted children were three toddlers under the age of two, a five-year-old named Asmau Ya’u, and the aforementioned week-old baby. Asmau Ya’u was reportedly taken while on her way to an Islamiyya school in Sokoto.

Suspicion arose when the women were traveling from Sokoto to Abuja in an 18-seater bus, and fellow passengers observed that neither of them could breastfeed the crying infant. Concerned passengers, including Abba Danbaba and Comrade Nura Mukhtar of the Human Rights Network Nigeria, questioned the women upon arrival at Deidei in Abuja. The ASP claimed she couldn’t breastfeed the toddler due to a breast disease.

The passengers alerted the Deidei police division, leading to the transfer of the suspects and the abducted children to the FCT command for further investigation.

Upon inquiry, it was discovered that ASP Kulu, serving with the Kubwa division, had traveled to Sokoto without approved leave. Additionally, additional children were found in her custody at her Deidei apartment, and witnesses from Sokoto Motor Park testified to seeing her with numerous children in previous weeks.

SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that investigations were ongoing. The authorities are diligently working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction and ensure that justice is served for the affected children and their families.
