Police Raid Destroys Abia Criminal Hideouts, Nabs Four Suspects

Security forces in Abia State have successfully dismantled multiple criminal camps in the Utu/Isuikwuato axis, leading to the arrest of four suspects believed to be terrorizing students and residents around the Abia State University, Uturu. According to iReporter Online, the swift action followed a report lodged at the Uturu Divisional Police Headquarters on July 16, 2025, alerting authorities about a gang involved in armed robbery and intimidation in the area.

Spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, issued a statement on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, revealing that officers, working closely with local residents and led by the Divisional Police Officer, tracked the suspects to their hideout. The four apprehended individuals were identified as Jerry Chisom, Tochukwu Ugula, Chinonso Nwankwo, and Kingsley Onyekeba.

During the raid, the police recovered several items suspected to have been used in criminal operations, including a locally made pistol, a knife, two mobile phones—an iPhone 7 Plus and an Infinix model—as well as a laptop. According to iReporter Online, the operation formed part of a broader crackdown aimed at flushing out criminal elements destabilizing peace in Abia communities.

The Command also disclosed that other illegal camps in the vicinity have been dismantled, with continued surveillance and patrols ongoing in surrounding areas.
