Political Earthquake in Delta: Oborevwori’s Former Ally Mobilises Resistance, Tags Defection a Coup”
Victor Ojei, a former Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), pro-democracy activists, civil society organisations, and youth movements to rise in opposition to the APC-led government in the state.
Ojei, who recently resigned his post following the defection of Governor Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and other PDP leaders to the All Progressives Congress (APC), warned that Delta State faces an imminent threat of political domination.
In a statement shared with Naija News, Ojei described the wave of defections as a “political coup” against the people, engineered by corrupt political elites aiming to establish a one-party rule.
He said, “Fellow Deltans and Nigerians, the Young Nigerian Rights Organisation is sounding the alarm over the growing danger of political monopoly and democratic suffocation in Delta State. This betrayal—where some PDP members shamelessly aligned with the same APC they once condemned—is nothing short of treason against the people.”
Calling for immediate action, he continued: “This mass defection is not just a betrayal of trust—it’s a calculated move to hijack our political future and enslave our democracy. As the lead activist of the Young Nigerian Rights Organisation, I, Comrade Victor Ojei, popularly known as Wong Box, reject this unholy alliance between APC and PDP defectors.”
“We refuse to be led by sellouts. We stand with the people. We stand with the authentic PDP. We are calling on Deltans, civil society groups, youth organisations, and all pro-democracy advocates to rise with us in resistance.”
Ojei affirmed that his stand is driven by the need to prevent Nigeria—particularly Delta State—from falling under a one-party dictatorship by 2027. He added that plans are underway to build a formidable opposition coalition.
“Our mission is simple: to form a strong alliance of patriots, defenders of democracy, and political forces committed to truth and public service—one that will rescue Delta State and eventually challenge APC at the federal level through democratic means,” he concluded.
