Power Restored: Electricity Supply-Returns To Nigeria Following National Grid-Shutdown

Electricity supply has been restored to parts of Nigeria, two days after striking workers shut down the national grid. Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications at Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, disclosed to Ireporteronline on Wednesday that the disco began receiving loads from the national grid around 6 pm on Tuesday.

When asked if power supply had been restored to its franchise, Ezeh confirmed: “Yes, we are restored. We started receiving loads at 18.06 hours yesterday (Tuesday).”

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had earlier announced the gradual restoration of power supply following the suspension of the strike action by organized labor on Tuesday.

Ireporteronline learned that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company has also restored power to its customers in Abuja, Nasarawa, and Kogi. Residents in Gwarimpa, Dawaki, FO1 in Kubwa, and Utako confirmed to Ireporteronline on Wednesday that power supply was restored Tuesday night.

“Power supply was flashed around 6 pm on Tuesday. At midnight, the power supply was restored fully,” said Benjamin Okoli, a resident of Kubwa.

The restoration of power follows the organized labor’s suspension of its indefinite strike on Tuesday. On Monday, TCN reported that striking workers had shut down the national grid, resulting in an electricity outage while the strike lasted.
