Rekindling Hope: A Call For Change In Edo State By Mallam Nurudeen D. Asunogie

It is an indubitable fact that the people’s hopes have been badly trounced and battered. They have been made to skirt the edges of decimation. It has been a long and tiresome swim in the ocean of neglect and miseries. Every policy has had a piratical edge to it. The hawkish disposition of those who superintend our affairs is never palliated. Leadership had been lickerish, with the capacity for empathy miniaturized. The people’s joy has been wrenched from them.

Those who have debauched the state hold themselves out in contrived hubris as our saviours. Yet there are gaping holes of penury and inanition dotting the landscape. The people are hemmed in like sheep by visible and invisible walls. The beauty hope once held for the people has been vaporized. There is a glut of despair, even as confusion, uncertainty, anxieties, and the fog of hopelessness menacingly, and audaciously seek to drain all that is in the people. However, in this troublous moment, one is heartened that in this ocean of discombobulation, where desperation has accentuated the predacious proclivities of our dealers in the corridor of power, one can still see hope flickers. The flames seem certain to burn brightly again. It reinforces an assuring statement, and with an uncanny clarity holds out a future that is foundational on a blithesome fulfillment. It kindles the flames of confidence that it can be done. The warmth it offers in the winter of despondency is not bogus.

This hope offered itself last time, we disparage it. We went for those who will demolish a library for a “shopping complex,” even as they claim to relish scholarship and acts of celebration. We did warn that the job was not for those who equivocate or the purveyors of excuses, certainly not for those who seek to drape illusions in the costume of reality just to obfuscate their dismal failure.

In this turbulent ocean, only the impavid, one with an indomitable spirit, one who is mentally feracious, can navigate us to the shores of hope and fulfillment. The one who dons the wrapper of integrity and commitment. The man, the immaculateness of his motives at all times, is the true measurement of his honour and being a great man. The fragrance of manumission is in the air again. Let us inhale it maximally.

For too long desolation has swarmed over us, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu must be made to feel compelled to pull the string of joy and make us once again vivacious. He can prod us back to a life of meaning. The air his person generates keeps the heat of melancholy afar. Where the cold wind of frigidity has left the people frozen, he surely will come with a reviving balm with a relief that is monumental.

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has never been outside of the people he offers to serve. He has always been around the people. He inhales the very air they inhale. He knows where the potholes are, in Ring Road and everywhere. He knows about the many impassable roads in the different parts of the state. The people’s story is his. He feels mortified by the ululations of the people. Those who are not orphaned of sapience do not get bitten twice in the same hole.

Now is the time to act wisely. The menacing dark night, with so many paralyzing trepidations, can only be dissipated when we embrace the rising sun that would melt away the darkness and the frustration that it typifies. Let us all call on Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to come to manumit us from the chasma of retrogression into which the state has cascaded. If Edo state will be great again, now is the time. Let us make it our compelling obligation that never again shall dealers be in charge of our affairs.

Edo state will never be a colony again for the exploitation of those who do not have their homes with us. Those who take a retreat into illusions, substituting their illusions for the realities that the people confront in their ordinary lives. Edo state will be free, it must be free.
