The Minister of Youth, Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, revealed on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics that NYSC members are no longer being posted to states deemed unsafe.

The move comes as a direct intervention to address the heightened security risks faced by corps members, with concerns amplified by the abduction of several individuals during their one-year mandatory national service. Bio-Ibrahim assured that the NYSC has proactively refrained from posting members to states grappling with insecurity, prioritizing their safety.

“As an immediate intervention of the government and the NYSC as an agency, we have actually stopped posting corps members to the very unsafe states. We have been doing it in the past. There are states we have not been posting corps members to ensure their safety,” explained the minister.

Highlighting the collaborative efforts in enhancing the security of corps members, Bio-Ibrahim stressed the importance of a multi-sectoral approach. The ministry is working closely with security agencies to develop new strategies and ensure the safety of NYSC members.

“In matters of security, it is a multi-sectoral approach. So, it is not the NYSC alone and the ministry that is involved. We are working with security outlets to ensure corps members are safe. We are also working on group transportation strategies for them to ensure that they are transported to and from camps safely and to their destinations,” added the minister.

The FG’s commitment to prioritizing the safety of NYSC members is a pivotal step in addressing security concerns and ensuring a secure environment for the national service volunteers.
