Sh*ck Claim: Several Terrorism Petitions Submitted Against Malami
According to Ireporter Online, the Department of State Services (DSS) has rearrested former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), barely hours after he was released on bail from the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja on Monday.
A security source familiar with the development disclosed that Malami was taken back into custody by DSS operatives following multiple petitions allegedly linked to terrorism financing. The source confirmed that the petitions prompted the renewed action against the former minister.
The source noted that allegations relating to terrorism and its financing are considered grave offences under both Nigerian and international legal frameworks, stressing that no individual is exempt from investigation regardless of status or past office held.
It was further recalled that during Malami’s tenure as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, he publicly maintained that the government would not shield any person associated with terrorism or its financing, a principle the source said must be applied consistently to all individuals.
The source explained that the rearrest was carried out in line with established inter-agency collaboration among security institutions, describing such cooperation as a routine aspect of ongoing investigations.
According to the source, the DSS remains the constitutionally designated lead agency responsible for probing terrorism-related allegations in Nigeria and should be allowed to carry out its mandate without interference.
Malami’s rearrest occurred shortly after his release from detention at the Kuje Correctional Centre, where he had been held following his arraignment on separate corruption-related charges.
