Fast-rising Nigerian artist, Ayo Maff, has revealed that he moved out of his parents’ home at the age of 16 in pursuit of a better life for his family.

In a recent interview with Hip TV, the 19-year-old singer recounted his early struggles growing up in the Shomolu area of Lagos. According to him, the tough environment helped shape his artistic journey.

“As the first child, I felt the responsibility to do more for my family,” Ayo Maff stated. “Life in Shomolu was hard, fun, and also exciting. If I hadn’t experienced it, I wouldn’t be able to sing about it the way I do.”

He further explained that he left home to stay with a friend for over a year. While his mother was initially concerned, he reassured her that he would remain in contact and continue to check in on the family.
