Three Brothers Who D!ed In Lagos Fire Finally Buried In Anambra
According to Ireporter Online, the three siblings who lost their lives in a tragic fire outbreak at the Great Nigeria Insurance (GNI) House on Martins Street, Lagos Island, have been laid to rest in their ancestral home in Anambra State.
The deceased, identified as Steve Omatu, 40; Casmir Omatu, 39; and Collins Omatu, 37, were buried on Wednesday in Uzoakwa community, Ihiala Local Government Area. The brothers reportedly died on December 24, 2025, after they were trapped inside the high-rise building when the inferno broke out.
Family sources disclosed that another sibling, Camillus Omatu, narrowly escaped from the incident, while the three others succumbed to the blaze, plunging the family and their community into deep sorrow.
Prior to their burial, a service of songs and a Requiem Mass were held in their honour at Jesus the Saviour Catholic Church, Ejigbo, Lagos, on January 7, where friends, relatives and sympathisers gathered to pay their last respects.
The final interment ceremony in Ihiala drew a large crowd, including notable dignitaries such as a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as well as the lawmaker representing Ihiala Federal Constituency, Pascal Agbodike, alongside other prominent indigenes of the area.
While addressing mourners, Obi expressed profound sympathy for the bereaved family, especially the widows and children left behind. He described the loss as heartbreaking and urged the family to find strength in faith.
He noted that the tragedy was a painful reminder of life’s fragility, praying for the eternal repose of the departed brothers and for divine comfort and resilience for their loved ones. Obi also appealed to residents of Anambra State and Nigerians across the country to continue to uphold the family in prayers as they navigate the aftermath of the devastating loss.
