The initiative, announced by Mark Chiese, the Special Adviser to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, aims to fulfill the government’s promise of providing decent and affordable housing for Nigerians. Tinubu stressed the importance of accessibility, livability, and safety in these urban developments to ease congestion in city centers.

The project is set to deliver an impressive 50,000 housing units in its initial phase, with each unit contributing to direct and indirect job creation, totaling an estimated 500,000 jobs. The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of 20,000 housing units in the FCT marks the commencement of this ambitious plan, beginning with a pilot site for 3,112 units in the Karsana District.

Implemented under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, the project is slated to deliver a total of 100,000 housing units nationwide, starting with the first phase in the FCT. The aim is to create integrated living communities equipped with essential amenities such as reliable electricity, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions.

President Tinubu underscored his commitment to affordable housing, emphasizing the need for access roads to all Renewed Hope Cities and Estates to enhance accessibility and livability. He commended the Housing Ministry’s innovative approach in leveraging PPP collaborations to attract investments and reiterated his administration’s determination to overcome housing challenges.

Furthermore, Tinubu revealed plans for similar projects in 12 states and groundbreaking ceremonies for 2,500 housing units in Ibeju–Lekki coastal city, Lagos, demonstrating a holistic effort to transform the housing and urban development landscape of Nigeria.
