“I must say, I’m deeply disappointed in Tinubu, very disappointed. I used to think he had a good grasp of economics. Now, it appears he’s more of a bookkeeper,” Pearse shared on Channels Television’s program “Sunrise Daily” on Monday.

Elaborating on his viewpoint, Pearse likened a bookkeeper to someone who “handles money, but to foster growth in a business or an economy requires a business-oriented mindset. What’s unfolding in the country right now is a disaster.”

Pearse’s comments are in response to the recent increase in fuel prices resulting from the removal of fuel subsidies in the country.

As a former Lagos chairmanship candidate for the PDP, he expressed his concerns about the situation, contending that considering Nigeria’s status as an oil-producing nation, fuel prices should be more affordable.

“Unless the President personally visits the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to assess the situation, we might not fully comprehend the significance or benefits of the oil produced in our country,” Pearse emphasized.

He also alleged that the NNPCL is plagued by corruption and advocated for a thorough investigation into the organization.

“We cannot afford to keep oscillating. We must address this problem. The cost of oil is unreasonably high, and we must strive to make it accessible,” the PDP member pointed out. “The solution lies in examining the NNPCL and identifying the wastefulness, inefficiency, and corruption that need to be eradicated to mitigate this issue.”
