Several traders, speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Kano, pointed to the low purchasing power of customers as the primary reason for the situation.

Malam Tanko Idris, a foodstuff dealer, noted a decline in sales compared to previous years during Ramadan. Despite the customary increase in prices of consumables during the fasting period, Idris observed a reluctance among people to make purchases.

Similarly, Saminu Dauda, a perishable items dealer, lamented the lackluster state of business, attributing it to the overall economic downturn in the country.

Vegetable seller Sani Ali echoed these sentiments, describing the current situation as unusual for the Ramadan season. Many customers, he noted, cited financial constraints due to the prevailing economic conditions.

Nura Baba, a buyer, specifically highlighted the exorbitant prices of essential items such as rice, millet, flour, and sugar, expressing frustration over the challenges of affording basic necessities during Ramadan.

He urged food item dealers and retailers in the state to consider reducing prices during the Holy month, appealing to their sense of compassion and generosity.
