Tomatoes and Vegetables Show Mixed Price Trends

Tomato prices have dropped slightly, with a basket now costing between ₦60,000 and ₦65,000, down from ₦80,000 a few weeks ago, thanks to seasonal harvests in states like Kano and Kaduna. Other vegetables, like onions and peppers, have shown more mixed trends. Onions are selling for ₦35,000 per bag, but the price of rodo (scotch bonnet pepper) has skyrocketed, reaching ₦45,000 per bag from ₦15,000 earlier this year, attributed to off-season supply challenges.

Palm Oil Prices Surge Ahead of Christmas

Palm oil prices have sharply risen. A 25-litre keg, previously priced at ₦37,000, now costs ₦54,000 in most markets. This hike is linked to transportation issues and high demand during the festive season.

Spaghetti and Other Staples See Price Reduction

On a positive note, staples like spaghetti have become more affordable. A carton of spaghetti, once sold for ₦35,000, now costs ₦23,000, thanks to improved supply chains and reduced importation costs.

Experts predict that while some prices may rise, the improved availability of beans and tomatoes could stabilize costs for these items.
