Team Nigeria Sets New National Record But Misses Mixed Relay Final At Paris 2024
Although they narrowly missed a spot in the final, Team Nigeria’s 4×400 mixed relay team set a new national record, finishing with a time of 3:11.99, breaking the previous record of 3:12.
Nigeria’s relay team, featuring Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Emmanuel Ojeli, and Patience Okon-George, finished fourth in the second heat at the Paris Olympics, just behind Italy, which secured the last spot in the final. Despite a strong start with Ogazi and Onojuvwevwo placing in the top three during their respective legs, the team fell short in the latter stages of the race.
In the same event, Team USA broke the world and Olympic records with a time of 3:07.41, surpassing the previous record set at the 2023 World Championships.
