Victory At Last! Ex-Guber Contender Azuka Okwuosa Emerges APC’s Choice For Senate Battle

Former Anambra governorship aspirant, Hon. Azuka Okwuosa, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer for the upcoming August 16 senatorial by-election in the Anambra South zone

Okwuosa, a seasoned political figure with previous roles as a local government chairman, state commissioner, and Secretary-General of the South-East Development Initiative, secured a decisive victory over his rival, Mr. Obinna Uzor. The closely watched primary was overseen by a seven-member committee from the APC National Secretariat, chaired by Chief Henry Ikoh.

According to iReporter Online, Okwuosa garnered 470 votes, while Uzor received 57, out of 594 accredited delegates across the seven local government areas. Twenty-two votes were declared invalid.

Chief Ikoh, while announcing the outcome of the primary, affirmed that the process was transparent, peaceful, and conducted in the presence of INEC officials, security agents, the media, and party delegates. “By the authority vested in me by the acting national vice chairman of APC, I declare that Azuka Okwuosa is duly elected and returned as the party’s candidate,” Ikoh said.

Speaking after his victory, Okwuosa expressed gratitude for the party’s confidence in him but noted that his triumph was accompanied by mixed emotions, given the vacancy was created by the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

“He was a distinguished senator who achieved a lot in a short time. I view this as a responsibility to continue where he left off,” Okwuosa stated, according to iReporter Online.

Born on November 3, 1959, in Jos, Plateau State, Okwuosa hails from a devout Christian family in Anambra. Over the years, he has traversed various political platforms—including APGA and PDP—before aligning with the APC, which he described as more aligned with his vision for a prosperous Anambra State.

His prior roles include chairmanship of Nnewi North Local Government Council, Commissioner for Works and Transport in Anambra State, and Secretary-General of the South-East Development Initiative from 2002 to 2010.
