The recently appointed Commissioner of Police for Rivers State, CP Tunji Disu, took swift action on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, and visited the tumultuous Odiemerenyi area in Ahoada East Local Government Area.
The visit was prompted by the recent violent activities orchestrated by the wanted cult leader, Gift David Okpara, also known as 2 Baba, who was responsible for the killing of five residents.

The Police chief reiterated his call to the officers, urging them to achieve success by apprehending 2Baba and his gang, emphasizing that nobody who kills a police officer should escape justice. He further advised the officers to prioritize their safety during the operation against the criminals.
CP Disu, along with his team, also visited the Odieremenyi community where five residents were killed on Sunday, November 12, 2023. During an interaction with Ben Eke Esq, the Chairman of Ahoada-East Local Government Area, CP Disu expressed the commitment of the command under his leadership to ensure lasting peace in the region. He pledged significant efforts to achieve sustainable peace.
Commending the LGA Chairman for supporting the police in the area, the Police boss underscored that his visit to the local government area marks his first assignment as Commissioner of Police.
In response, Ben Eke acknowledged CP Disu’s dedication, stating that the visit reflects the commissioner’s genuine concern for the security of Rivers State.
According to Ben Eke said “I must tell you the truth .The Police is trying.Several arrests have been made. What happened days ago is just a display of frustration and they want to blackmail the Government.
“I must commend the Police and the Police too should not be deterred at all .As a Government we are ready to provide the necessary support to ensure that those hoodlums are arrested and that the proper thing is done.
“We will give you every support to ensure you succeed as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State. For the Area Command,Division and other security agencies in the area we will give them the necessary support so that at the end of the day we will get the culprits.
“Knowing again that the Yuletide is just around the corner,if the culprits are not arrested and brought to book our people will not come home.People are leaving the area”.
It’s worth noting that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Bako Angbashim, fell victim to an ambush and murder orchestrated by 2Baba and his gang members at Odiemerenyi community in Ahoada-East. The perpetrators dismembered his body and circulated a viral video of the gruesome act.
The new State Police boss officially commenced his duties at the Police Command headquarters on Moscow road, Port Harcourt.
