In a strong response to Odili’s recent criticism, Wike stated that Odili was politically sidelined after leaving office in 2007 and was unable to get close to power as long as Amaechi held the governorship. However, when Wike assumed office in 2015, he asserted that he restored Odili’s political relevance, essentially bringing him “back to life.”

Wike made these remarks at a special thanksgiving service organized by Martin Amaewhule, the factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, in Port Harcourt. The service, held at the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), saw Wike addressing Odili’s allegations, where the former governor had accused Wike of turning Rivers State into his personal estate.

Wike didn’t hold back, calling Odili an ingrate for aligning with current Governor Siminalayi Fubara, while also dismissing Odili as a “local man.” He sarcastically questioned what Odili still sought after serving eight years as governor.

Further firing back, Wike revealed that Odili, after leaving office, was politically irrelevant under Amaechi’s administration. He emphasized that it was his intervention in 2015 that revived Odili’s political stature in Rivers.

“I won’t say I resurrected him, but I certainly brought him back to life,” Wike said, according to his media aide, Lere Olayinka.
