Wike Mocks Defectors: ‘Money Can’t Buy Capacity, We’ll Crush You Again!’

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ridiculed Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s supporters after their recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Peoples Party (APP), ahead of the upcoming local government elections set for October 5.

Following a recent congress that further solidified Wike’s dominance over the PDP in Rivers State, it was reported that Fubara instructed his loyalists to run for office under the APP banner.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Ijaw Peoples Assembly in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike expressed his surprise at the defection of Fubara’s camp, questioning their loyalty to the PDP.

He remarked, “Imagine, in Rivers State, they are thinking about APP. It’s not about money. Money doesn’t win elections. You can have all the money in the world, but without capacity, it means nothing.”

Wike further added, “Everything you see happening is out of envy for our success. We’ve defeated them many times, and if given the chance, we will do it again. We haven’t even started playing politics yet. When the time comes, we will show them what politics really is. Let them prepare their party; we’ll teach them a lesson.”

Wike also dismissed claims that the Ijaw people were against him, stating that only a few ungrateful individuals from the ethnic group were causing trouble. He emphasized that certain individuals viewed the political crisis in Rivers State as an opportunity for personal gain, likening the state government to a “big market.”

“They’re not fighting me. I’m too big for them. If you don’t acknowledge someone who’s greater than you, you’re only fooling yourself. I’m far bigger, and none of them can stand against me,” Wike declared.

The FCT Minister attended the event alongside notable figures, including the Minister of State for Petroleum, Heineken Lokpobiri, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, and former governors and members of the G5, such as Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), among others.
