On Thursday, Tinubu appointed Akawor to the position of Federal Commissioner, representing Rivers State, in the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission. This appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate.

The appointment of Akawor follows the untimely passing of the immediate past RMAFC Federal Commissioner from Rivers State, Asondu Temple, earlier this month, as disclosed in a statement titled ‘President Tinubu approves appointment of RMAFC Federal Commissioner,’ signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

Before this appointment, Akawor held several significant roles, including serving as Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Korea, Minister of State in the Federal Capital Territory, Sole Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt Development Authority, CEO of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, and Executive Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (Engineering & Technical Services).

The President urged the new Federal Commissioner to utilize his extensive experience across different levels of government to spearhead a thorough reform of processes, ensuring the optimal and productive utilization of allocations to all three tiers of government in Nigeria.
