BREAKING: What Appeal Court Just Did To Fubara As Rivers Governor

Siminialayi Fubara

On Tuesday, an Appeals Court in Lagos State dismissed the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Patrick Tonye-Cole, against Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Present in the courtroom, the APC candidate sought the court’s direction to instruct INEC to declare him the winner of the March governorship election in Rivers.

In October, the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had previously dismissed Cole’s petition challenging Fubara’s election victory, citing the withdrawal of the petition by the APC that sponsored Cole.

Unsatisfied with the Tribunal’s decision, the APC candidate pursued the matter in the appellate court. However, on Tuesday, the court affirmed the Tribunal’s ruling, which had earlier upheld Fubara’s electoral victory in October.
