FG Addresses Telecom, Banking Network Interruptions In Nigeria, Ghana, And Beyond
The Federal Government has responded to recent disruptions in telecom and banking networks across Nigeria, Ghana, and other West African nations. According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), these disruptions are attributed to cable cuts affecting major undersea cables along the West African Coast, particularly in countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Cote de Ivoire…….READ ALSO FG To Seek Fresh Borrowing Through Eurobond
The NCC Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, revealed in a statement on Thursday night that the cable cuts occurred in Cote de’Ivoire and Senegal, causing a ripple effect that impacted services as far as Portugal.
The affected cables include the West African Cable System (WACS) and African Coast to Europe (ACE) in the West Coast route from Europe, along with SAT3 and MainOne experiencing downtime. Additionally, undersea cables serving traffic from Europe to the East Coast of Africa, such as Seacom, Europe India Gateway (EIG), and Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE1), have also been affected by cuts around the Red Sea, leading to service degradation across these routes.
Muoka emphasized that internet access and speed have been disrupted in Nigeria and other West African countries, affecting networks of service providers in the region. However, efforts are underway as cable operators have commenced repairs and are working tirelessly to restore services promptly.
He concluded by urging both corporate entities and individual consumers reliant on these services to be aware of the ongoing disruptions and assured that measures are being taken to expedite the restoration process.
