Duru expressed concern that the tariff hike could adversely affect the APC’s chances in future elections and emphasized the need for urgent action to address the situation. He criticized the policy as burdensome to the Nigerian populace and urged regulators to reconsider their approach.

He highlighted the discrepancy between the responsibilities of Distribution Companies (DISCOS) and Generating Companies (GENCOS) and the burden placed on consumers to finance essential infrastructure. Duru called for a review of the concession agreements and suggested that government intervention might be necessary if the terms were not being upheld.

Duru criticized the lack of significant improvements in the power sector despite privatization, contrasting it with the telecommunications industry’s success. He highlighted disparities in electricity tariffs based on geographical location and consumption patterns, stressing the need for a fair and efficient system.

Ultimately, Duru emphasized the importance of restoring public confidence in the provision of electricity and called for regulatory accountability to ensure that consumers receive reliable and affordable power supply.
