PDP’s Nightmare: Charles Idahosa Throws Weight Behind APC’s Okpebholo, With Dennis Idahosa, Throwing Party Into Chaos(Photos)

By Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah

The recent development in which former PDP board of trustee member Hon Charles Idahosa hosted the APC gubernatorial candidate in the upcoming Edo Gubernatorial election, Senator Monday Okpebholo, his running mate Hon Dennis Idahosa, and his campaign team has thrown the PDP into disarray.

Charles Idahosa, a former Edo State commissioner and a significant figure in Obaseki’s government, has openly condemned Governor Obaseki, alleging that his eight-year tenure has set back the state’s progress by two decades.

Charles Idahosa’s action represents a major division in the PDP, especially considering that he was once considered a cornerstone of Obaseki’s government. Idahosa’s exit from the PDP and his affiliation with the APC raise concerns about Obaseki’s capacity to mobilise party members in favour of his chosen successor, Asue Ighodalo.

The growing opposition within the PDP, marked by members departing the party in large numbers, poses a considerable challenge to Obaseki’s efforts to secure Ighodalo’s candidacy.

Furthermore, the shift in momentum towards Senator Okpebholo’s campaign, as evidenced by increased support from multiple sources, heightens the uncertainties surrounding Obaseki’s succession plan.

This development represents a significant blow to the PDP’s prospects in the upcoming elections. The loss of support from key figures within the party, coupled with the challenge of consolidating internal cohesion, undermines the PDP’s ability to mount a formidable campaign.

As the political landscape in Edo State continues to evolve, the PDP faces an uphill battle in maintaining its relevance and competitiveness amidst the shifting allegiances and growing dissent within its ranks.
