WAEC Confirms: Nationwide Strike Won’t Disrupt Ongoing WASSCE-Exams
The West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) has assured secondary school stakeholders that the upcoming nationwide strike will not disrupt the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Branch Controller (Ekiti) of WAEC, Mrs. T.A.Y. Lawson, made the announcement, emphasizing that the strike set to commence on Monday would not affect the WASSCE timetable. She conveyed this message to school principals and heads in Ekiti State through a letter titled “Notice of Commencement of Indefinite Strike by NLC and TUC.”
The strike, declared by Organised Labour over the delay in negotiating a new national minimum wage and reversing the electricity tariff hike, raised concerns about exam disruptions. However, WAEC confirmed that the WASSCE exams would proceed as scheduled despite the industrial action.
Lawson stressed WAEC’s commitment to conducting the exams across member countries, ensuring Nigerian students are not disadvantaged. She urged stakeholders to make adequate arrangements for candidates to sit for the exams without interruption.
The statement underscores WAEC’s dedication to maintaining the integrity of the examination process while acknowledging the challenges posed by the nationwide strike.
