Council of State Expresses Full Support for Tinubu Amidst Recent Protests

ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu received a significant endorsement from the Council of State on Tuesday during his first meeting with the body since assuming office on May 29, 2023. The Council, which includes former Presidents, past Heads of State, and former Chief Justices of the Federation, voiced their confidence in Tinubu’s leadership.

The meeting took place at the Presidential Villa, where Tinubu presided over discussions involving the Council members. The attendees included former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, who were present in person, while Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar joined the proceedings virtually. Notably, former President Olusegun Obasanjo did not attend, either in person or virtually.

In addition to expressing support for Tinubu, the Council members condemned the recent #EndBadGovernance protest. This protest, which lasted for ten days, caused significant disruptions to social and economic activities. Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, criticized the protest, suggesting it was driven by ulterior motives and aimed at instigating a change in government.

The Council’s stance reflects a strong endorsement of President Tinubu’s administration, even as it faces scrutiny and challenges from various quarters.
