Osun State Takes Bold Action to Revitalize Erin Ijesha Waterfalls

Osun State Government has launched an ambitious plan to restore the Erin Ijesha Waterfalls, a renowned tourist destination, following a viral video that highlighted its poor condition. This move signals a renewed commitment to enhancing the state’s tourism sector.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, revealed a sweeping upgrade initiative for several key tourist sites, including Osun-Osogbo Grove, Erin Ijesha Waterfalls, and Owala Inland Beach Resort. This comprehensive plan aims to address decades of neglect by previous administrations and rejuvenate the state’s tourism infrastructure.

Alimi’s statement emphasized that the Erin Ijesha Waterfalls site is currently managed by the Erin Ijesha community, a decision intended to localize management and ensure that local interests are prioritized. To spearhead these reforms, Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the fast-tracking of renewal efforts and the formation of a dedicated tripartite committee.

The newly formed committee will include representatives from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment, and leaders from the Erin Ijesha community. Their first meeting is scheduled for August 14, where they will discuss strategies for environmental maintenance and establish a collaborative framework for the site’s management.

Alimi reassured the public of the government’s dedication to tourism, which is a cornerstone of Governor Adeleke’s five-point agenda. He also emphasized the administration’s openness to public-private partnerships to further enhance the state’s cultural and tourism sites.

“The Osun State government, under Governor Ademola Adeleke, is committed to revitalizing our cultural and tourism sites,” Alimi stated. “The upcoming meeting will mark a significant step towards achieving our goals and addressing the community’s needs.”
