Nigerian media personality and Nollywood actress Toke Makinwa has shared her perspective on relationships, advising people to date within their financial class to avoid challenges that often arise from economic imbalance.

The actress made the remarks during a recent episode of the MENtality podcast hosted by media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, where she discussed the impact of financial disparity on dating and marriage.

According to reports, Makinwa argued that relationships involving partners from significantly different financial backgrounds can become complicated, particularly for men who are still striving for financial success. She noted that some men overlook supportive women within their own income bracket in pursuit of partners whose lifestyles they cannot comfortably maintain, only to later accuse women of being materialistic.

She maintained that choosing a partner with a similar financial standing can reduce unnecessary pressure and create a healthier relationship dynamic. Makinwa also expressed concern over situations where women who supported their partners through difficult times are later treated unfairly after the men become financially successful.

Speaking further, she remarked that she hopes women do not end up with men who only reveal negative character traits after attaining wealth. According to her, money does not fundamentally change a person but instead exposes their true nature, adding that many women have been hurt after sacrificing for partners who later became successful and abandoned or mistreated them.
