Breaking: Security Forces Storm Kidnappers’ Hideout In Imo—One Suspect Killed, Victims Freed In Dramatic Rescue

In a coordinated operation, operatives from the Imo State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit (Tiger Base), working alongside military personnel, dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate in Ezioha, Mbaitoli Local Government Area, on October 4, 2024.

The joint task force engaged the suspects in a shootout, killing one and successfully rescuing four hostages. According to a statement by the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, the raid was an intelligence-driven operation. The victims had been abducted along Orlu Road on September 29, 2024.

The rescued individuals include Eze Okoro from Orlu LGA, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Nwosu, aged 44 and 31, both from Ohi in Mbaitolu LGA, and a 56-year-old man named Bartholomew from Benue State.

During the operation, the suspects opened fire on the approaching security forces, but their attack was repelled, leading to the death of one suspect while others fled into the surrounding bushes, reportedly injured.

The operatives recovered several items from the kidnappers’ hideout, including a pump-action gun, ten live cartridges, four expended cartridges, locally made explosives, a native bulletproof vest, a Biafra flag, and three vehicles—a Toyota Camry and two Highlander SUVs.

Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, and the Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, praised the swift actions of the operatives. They also urged the security forces to maintain their momentum in the ongoing fight against crime in the state.
