Emergency Power Cuts In FCT: Residents Brace For Daily Darkness

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced scheduled power outages in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from January 6 to 20, 2025. This follows a prior notice from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) regarding the infrastructure updates. TCN’s general manager, Ndidi Mbah, expressed regret for the disruptions but stressed the importance of this effort for improving power supply reliability.

The project involves relocating eight 132kV and 33kV towers along the Kukwaba/Apo 132kV line as part of the Outer Southern Expressway initiative. During this time, power supply will be rationed for AEDC customers in affected areas including Kubwa, Karu, Maraba, Nyanya, Masaka, Keffi, Kukwaba, and Apo Mechanic. Parts of Lugbe, Trademore Estate, Pyakasa, Sabon Lugbe, and Chika Alaita will also be impacted.

“While we understand that this relocation is necessary for the road completion project, TCN apologizes for the inconvenience and assures the public that power will be restored promptly once the tower relocation and cable work are finalized,” the company stated.

Earlier, the AEDC informed that multiple facilities and areas within the FCT would experience power outages starting January 6 until January 21 due to the Federal Capital Development Agency’s road dualization project along the Apo axis.

Areas expected to be affected include Lugbe, Airport Road, Kapwa, NNPC, Games Village, National Stadium, Eye Clinic, Indoor Complex, Christ Embassy Church, and American International School, among others.
