Nigerians Sinking in Poverty Despite Govt Raking In Billions – Dalung Explodes!”

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has criticized the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating they have not improved the lives of Nigerians.

In an interview with Vanguard, Dalung argued that although the government has generated more revenue—particularly through the removal of fuel subsidies—this financial gain has not translated into any tangible benefits for ordinary Nigerians.

He highlighted that, since President Tinubu assumed office, the economic situation has worsened, with citizens facing unprecedented hardship due to high inflation triggered by government policies such as the subsidy removal, the floating of the naira, and increases in electricity and data tariffs.

“In the past two years, Nigeria has earned more revenue than at any other time, especially following the withdrawal of fuel subsidies. Yet, the poverty rate has surged to historic levels. Inflation is soaring, and the idea of poverty reduction is now merely theoretical. Nigerians are experiencing extreme hunger and deprivation. Even during the civil war, such suffering wasn’t widespread—except in war zones. But today, despite not being at war, citizens can barely feed themselves,” Dalung said.

He described the government’s approach to poverty alleviation as “hypocritical,” alleging that while authorities claim to invest heavily in the sector, poverty continues to grow at an alarming rate.

Dalung: Tinubu Needs a Miracle to Win in 2027

Dalung further asserted that winning re-election in 2027 will be a major challenge for President Tinubu, as public trust has eroded due to the administration’s unpopular policies.

According to the former Minister, Nigerians have grown politically aware and will no longer be swayed by financial inducements. He accused the government of waging an economic war on the poor.

“The president has effectively declared war on the masses with harsh policies like the removal of subsidies without viable alternatives, the devaluation of the naira, and sharp increases in electricity and data tariffs. These measures disproportionately hurt the common man,” he said.

Dalung warned that even massive spending ahead of the 2027 elections may not sway voters. “There may be a flood of cash and attempts to buy votes, but Nigerians are wiser now. Politicians may collect the money, but selling Tinubu to the people—whether in the South West, South-South, South East, North West, North Central, or North East—will be extremely difficult,” he said.

He concluded that unless drastic changes occur, Tinubu’s only path to a second term might involve controversial methods, which could lead to national instability.
