According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian music star Yemi Alade has opened up about the disturbing experiences of sexual harassment she endured from industry executives at the start of her career. The award-winning singer spoke during a recent episode of the Swift Conversations podcast, where she recounted how senior figures in the music business frequently subjected her to inappropriate behaviour during meetings and studio sessions.

Yemi Alade explained that harassment was one of the biggest obstacles she faced as a young artiste, stressing that despite the pressure, she remained determined not to compromise her values. She said her breakthrough came when she realised she needed to do more than rely on talent alone, adding that it required breaking through barriers deliberately placed in her way.

The ‘Johnny’ hitmaker noted that she started her career with nothing but her talent, passion, and faith, and consistently showed up after being told to work harder—even though her hard work was often met with demands unrelated to her craft. She narrated distressing incidents where music executives attempted to touch her inappropriately during formal engagements, describing one situation in which an older industry figure rubbed her thighs under the table during what was supposed to be a professional meeting.

Alade, who was still a teenager at the time, said she was often shocked into silence by such encounters. She revealed that the recurring harassment almost made her question whether to continue pursuing music, but she eventually resolved to keep pushing forward. She explained that she chose to focus on her talent, walking through whatever doors were open to her and stepping away from those that were shut.
