Tinubu’s Minister Rules Out Senate Ambitions
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, has denied reports suggesting he intends to resign from his ministerial position to contest the Plateau North senatorial seat.
According to Ireporter Online, the clarification follows circulating reports that President Bola Tinubu had instructed political appointees with ambitions for elective positions to step down, with Doro’s name reportedly among those expected to join the race.
Speaking on behalf of the minister, aide Jasper Adeleye stated that there is no plan for such a move. He emphasized that Doro is focused on his current duties and has no intention of seeking elective office at this time.
Adeleye noted that Doro, who was recently appointed to the cabinet, is still acclimating to his ministerial responsibilities. He stressed that it would be premature for the minister to pursue another political position so soon after assuming office.
He further highlighted that Doro remains committed to supporting the current administration’s objectives, particularly in addressing humanitarian issues and poverty reduction across the country.
The aide also suggested that the rumors may stem from Doro’s previous interest in the Plateau North senatorial race under the All Progressives Congress before his ministerial appointment. Despite that past interest, Adeleye reiterated that the minister is fully dedicated to his current role and is not pursuing any political contest at present. He warned that such speculation could undermine the ministry’s efforts and disrupt ongoing projects.
