Tinubu Administration Set To Unveil Digital Trade Platform This Friday

The Federal Government is set to launch a major digital platform on Friday, March 27, aimed at simplifying Nigeria’s import and export processes. According to government sources, the initiative, known as the National Single Window, is designed to reduce bureaucratic delays and improve trade efficiency across the country.

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, described the platform as a “game changer” that will significantly streamline trade operations and cut costs associated with clearing goods at Nigerian ports. The first phase of the project will commence as a pilot, involving one shipping line and one port, with operations gradually expanding in the future.

Oduwole emphasized that the digital platform is a central part of the broader economic reforms being implemented under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which include tax restructuring and fiscal adjustments aimed at enhancing revenue generation and overall economic stability. She expressed optimism that the initiative will strengthen Nigeria’s balance of trade and boost foreign exchange earnings.

“This platform has the potential to generate a multiplier effect on trade facilitation and economic growth,” the minister stated. She added that the reform aligns with ongoing efforts to modernize the country’s trading infrastructure, including a recent £746 million ($1 billion) export finance agreement with the United Kingdom to redevelop two major ports.

Addressing prospects of a free trade agreement with China, Oduwole noted that the government is still evaluating its options. She also commented on the potential impact of rising tensions in the Middle East on global markets, cautioning that while uncertainty remains, the government hopes for market stabilization to restore investor confidence.
