Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has admitted that the club faces the difficult task of replacing influential midfielder Rodri following his departure from the Etihad Stadium.

According to Ireporter Online, Rodri ended his seven-year spell with Manchester City after completing a reported £65 million move to Spanish giants Barcelona.

The 30-year-old midfielder signed a four-year contract with the Catalan club after establishing himself as one of the world’s leading players during his time in England.

Rodri enjoyed a highly successful career at Manchester City, winning four Premier League titles and scoring the decisive goal in the 2023 UEFA Champions League final. He also claimed the 2024 Ballon d’Or and played a key role in Spain’s World Cup triumph.

Maresca acknowledged the significance of Rodri’s departure but insisted that Manchester City would look to recruit another player capable of filling the void left by the Spanish international.

Asked how the club planned to replace such an influential figure, Maresca said City would attempt to “find the new Rodri.”

The manager pointed out that Rodri had not yet reached the peak of his career when he arrived at Manchester City, suggesting that the club could once again identify a player with the potential to develop into a world-class midfielder.

Maresca also cited Manchester City’s history of successfully replacing key players as evidence that Rodri’s departure should not necessarily be viewed as a crisis.

He recalled how Kevin De Bruyne eventually succeeded David Silva as a major creative force, while Erling Haaland arrived after Sergio Aguero’s departure and Rodri himself took over from Fernandinho.

According to the manager, the club’s ability to identify quality replacements has been an important part of its success.

Maresca maintained that change is a normal part of football and urged the club to focus on making the right recruitment decisions as it begins the search for Rodri’s successor.
