Abbas Tajudeen, Kalu, Others Set To Discover Their Fate As APC Holds Reps Primaries Tomorrow

According to Ireporter Online, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to commence its primary elections on Thursday to select candidates for the 2026 general elections, beginning with aspirants vying for seats in the House of Representatives across the 360 federal constituencies.

Party officials disclosed that the national secretariat is currently collating reports from screening centres, while appeal committees are reviewing petitions arising from the exercise. A member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) described the process as demanding, noting that the timetable remains tight but firmly on course.

Despite logistical concerns, the party has assured members that the primaries will proceed as scheduled. Prominent lawmakers seeking re-election tickets include the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen; Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu; House Leader, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere; House Spokesperson, Akin Rotimi; Ado Doguwa; Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, James Faleke; and former minister, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.

Others in the race include Chijioke Edoga, Leke Abejide, Bimbo Daramola, Kafilat Ogbara, Oluwole Oke, and Donald Ojogo. Some state assembly speakers, including Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and Rivers State Speaker Martins Amaewhule, are also contesting for seats in the House of Representatives.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, reaffirmed that the timetable for the primaries remains unchanged, stressing that the party is committed to adhering strictly to its electoral schedule.

Party guidelines indicate that direct primaries will be conducted where consensus arrangements fail, while consensus remains an option where stakeholders reach agreement.

A party source revealed that all aspirants from Lagos, Ondo, Ekiti, Enugu, and Rivers States were cleared after screening, adding that no disqualification was recorded. The source also noted that attempts to disqualify certain aspirants were resisted by the screening committee, which insisted on fairness and due process.

The NWC reportedly reviewed and approved screening reports earlier in the week, even though official results are yet to be formally released. Primary election committees have also been deployed across states to work with governors and party leaders to ensure smooth and peaceful exercises.

The APC further disclosed that senatorial primaries will hold on May 18, House of Assembly primaries on May 20, governorship primaries on May 21, and the presidential primary on May 23.
