The State Government’s directive, which also includes a warning against films depicting thuggery, comes in response to public concerns regarding the influence of certain movies on youth behavior in Kano.

The ban was announced by Abba El-Mustapha, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, following a meeting with stakeholders from the Kannywood industry.

In her reaction, Aisha Yesufu highlighted the longstanding presence of cross-dressers in Kano, predating even popular figures like Bobrisky. She emphasized that Kano has been home to original cross-dressers who do not require surgical procedures for transformation.

“Yes, let’s continue with the hypocrisy and make it a new thing,” she remarked on X, referencing the ban.

Yesufu’s comments underscore the complexity of the issue and the need for nuanced approaches to address societal concerns while respecting individual freedoms and diversity within communities.
