“APC Is My New Party” — Rivers Speaker Makes Bold Political Switch

According to Ireporter Online, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing deep internal divisions within his former party as the primary reason for his decision.

Amaewhule made the declaration on Friday during plenary proceedings at the state assembly, where he also revealed that 15 other lawmakers had joined him in leaving the PDP for the ruling APC. Addressing his colleagues, the Speaker openly affirmed his new political alignment, stating that he had already informed his ward chairman of his departure from the PDP and his decision to join the APC.

He further disclosed that arrangements were already underway for the issuance of his APC membership card, emphasizing that, despite the formalities still in progress, he now fully identifies as a member of the ruling party. According to him, his move would strengthen political cooperation with the federal government.

The Speaker also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as his commitment to national security and inclusive governance, particularly praising the president’s efforts in addressing insecurity and showing support for Rivers State within the federal framework.

Amaewhule explained that his defection was a strategic move aimed at aligning the state legislature with the central government for the overall benefit of the people of Rivers State. He stressed that the prolonged crisis and internal divisions within the PDP made it difficult to continue under the party’s platform, ultimately forcing him and his colleagues to seek a new political home.
