Army Apprehends Family Members For Operating Gun Manufacturing Factory In Delta

Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, the Commander of the 63 Brigade, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the illicit arms factory situated in Onicha Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.

Among those arrested at the factory were eight suspects linked to the family-run enterprise, including the mastermind, his father, mother, and sister.

The arms manufacturing plant, nestled within a forest, featured surveillance equipment, a remote-connected generator set, a furnace for iron melting, and a stockpile of firearms and ammunition.

Capable of churning out 10 guns weekly, the facility also harbored materials for producing improvised explosive devices (IEDs), such as shrapnels, detonators, and containers.

Brigadier General Unachukwu underscored that the activities of the apprehended individuals significantly contributed to insecurity within the region and the nation at large.

He remarked, “In this area, only IPOB and Eastern Security Network utilize improvised explosive devices and even drones. A standard AK-47 magazine holds 30 rounds, but this individual is modifying AK-47 magazines to accommodate 60 rounds. Anyone involved in acts of insurgency that undermine Nigeria’s peace and stability will be apprehended.”

The prime suspect, 22-year-old Emmanuel Eboka, confessed to leasing some of the firearms to criminal elements, stating, “When I repair it for them, I don’t charge them; they simply offer whatever they deem fit. I don’t charge them. My father requested that I vacate his veranda because he felt uncomfortable with me being there, prompting my relocation to this area (the forest).”

While Mr. and Mrs. Ebokah acknowledged awareness of their son’s unlawful activities, they denied any knowledge of his involvement in supplying arms and ammunition to criminals.
