According to Ireporter Online, Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement was made on Thursday at the National Assembly.

Upon his defection, Abubakar, popularly known as Abba, was received by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano North), alongside APC leaders from the North-East geopolitical zone. Speaking on his decision, Abba cited personal and historical reasons for leaving the PDP.

He directed all coordinators and members of his political network, formerly the Haske Atiku Organisation established in 2022, to immediately join the APC and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“I am formally announcing my exit from my former party and my decision to join the APC,” Abba said, praising Senator Jibrin’s leadership and the Tinubu administration’s performance. “I will work with Senator Barau to actualise President Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027 and urge all members of my association to support the APC fully.”

Welcoming him into the party, APC National Vice Chairman (North-East), Comrade Mustapha Salihu, described the defection as symbolic and far-reaching, reflecting “politics without borders.” He commended Abba’s decision to align with the Tinubu administration’s policies and programmes.

Senator Barau also praised Abba’s move, calling it a major boost to the APC’s consolidation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections. “You have made this decision based on ideology, not familial ties,” Barau said. “You believe in President Tinubu, his ideology, and the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
