BREAKING: House Speaker Steps Down (DETAILS)

The leadership dispute within the 7th Nasarawa State House of Assembly has been resolved, as Daniel Ogazi stepped down as the speaker, and Ibrahim Balarabe was elected to fill the position.

All 24 members attended the plenary session in Lafia after reaching a common ground through a series of meetings between the Ogazi and Balarabe factions.

Balarabe, who represents Umaisha/Ugya, was elected as the new speaker, and Abel Yakubu Bala of Nasarawa Eggon West was elected as the deputy speaker.

The Acting Clerk, Ibrahim Musa, made the announcement during the members’ inauguration, stating that the development was in line with Governor Abdullahi Sule’s proclamation and the Constitution of Nigeria.

Balarabe’s nomination was made by Mohammed Oyanki of Doma North and seconded by Larry Ven Bawa of Akwanga North.

Abel Yakubu Bala was nominated for the deputy speakership position by Ibrahim Peter Akwe of Obi 1 and seconded by Suleiman Yakubu Azara of Awe South.

In his acceptance speech, Balarabe pledged to lead with inclusivity and work towards the peace and development of Nasarawa State.

He assured the members of his commitment to fairness and an open-door policy, promising to improve the welfare of the assembly staff.

After the plenary, Governor Sule met with the lawmakers at the Government House and urged them to put the previous disagreements behind them and work together for the state’s prosperity.

The resolution of the crisis brings an end to the weeks-long leadership dispute that had caused tension in the Nasarawa Assembly.
