Breaking: Soldier Kills Police Officer In Lagos, Army Reacts With Urgent InvestigationThe Nigerian Army has announced that it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a police officer in Lagos.

According to a report by DAILY POST, the incident involved soldiers from Ojo Cantonment Barracks, including a yet-to-be-identified soldier who was stopped for driving against traffic near the Volks Bus Stop on Ojo Iyana Iba Road. During the altercation, the soldier reportedly stabbed the policeman, Saka Ganiyu, to death.

In a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 81 Division, the Army expressed regret over the tragic event. “81 Division Nigerian Army (NA) regrets to inform the public of an unfortunate incident that occurred on 9 October 2024 involving a soldier and a policeman following an altercation related to an alleged traffic rule violation,” the statement read.

The Army confirmed that the soldier involved has been apprehended and handed over to Military Police for investigation and possible disciplinary action. Ayeni emphasized that the Nigerian Army is committed to upholding its Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement and expressed sorrow over the incident, extending condolences to the family of the deceased and the Nigeria Police.

The statement reassured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and justice will be served. The Army also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with other security agencies to safeguard lives and property, as per its constitutional mandate.
